Vokzalna Square is one of the most famous and busiest squares in Kyiv, located next to the Central Railway Station, which appeared here in 1868–1870 and gave the square its name. From the moment it was established, it became the true transportation heart of the capital, where passenger flows from across the city, the country, and the world converge.
In 1892, a tram line was laid to the square, connecting the station with the central districts of Kyiv. It was from here that the first electric tram in Eastern Europe departed — a milestone that became a symbol of Kyiv’s technological progress at the end of the 19th century. However, a century later, in the 1990s, tram traffic on the square was dismantled as part of transportation system modernization.
Today, Vokzalna Square is an important transport hub, with public transport stops, taxi stands, exits to the Vokzalna metro station, and numerous services for travelers — hotels, cafés, tourist information centers, and other infrastructure facilities.
