Moroz House

Moroz House

Not far from the university, amid the historical buildings of the Latin Quarter, stands the Moroz House — one of the most fascinating structures in Kyiv from the late 19th century.

This tenement building was constructed by entrepreneur Berk Moroz, known for his love of modern technologies and innovative solutions. At the time, the building was a true marvel of technical progress. It was equipped with silent elevators, a central vacuum system, air-conditioning and heating systems, as well as its own laundry — a rare luxury for Kyiv of that era.

Every apartment had a telephone, making the building one of the most modern residential properties in the city. That is why professors, lecturers, and scholars of the university happily settled here. This gave rise to the popular nickname — the “Professors’ House.”

The Moroz House became a symbolic representation of intellectual Kyiv of the early 20th century — a city that combined technological progress with the spirit of science and education. Even today, its façades remind us of a time when Kyiv was rapidly transforming into a European city with great ambitions and a unique style.
