The mini-sculpture “Kyiv Fountain” is part of the unique urban art project “Seek!”, which introduces residents and visitors of the capital to little-known but important symbols and historical artifacts of Kyiv. This project was launched in 2018 on the initiative of Yuliia Bevzenko, its author and organizer, with the aim of creating a kind of “open-air museum,” where each bronze miniature tells its own story. It is connected to a specific place, notable personalities, or historical events.
The mini-sculpture on the building near the Golden Gate is dedicated to one of the five cast-iron Termen fountains installed in Kyiv at the end of the 19th century. In miniature form, it recreates the shape and details of the old Kyiv fountain, recalling the era when the city was actively developing and acquiring European features. The miniature allows visitors to literally touch history — as the “Seeki” project is designed to be experienced tactually.
According to a Kyiv legend associated with this image, tossing a coin into the fountain promises a return to Kyiv. Thus, the mini-sculpture embodies this idea of hospitality and the enduring pull of the city, which always calls its people and guests back again.
