Mini-sculpture “Homecoming”

Mini-sculpture “Homecoming”

The mini-sculpture “Homecoming”, created by sculptor Yurii Biliavskyi, is part of the city project “Seek”, curated and implemented by Yuliia Bevzenko.

This small but deeply symbolic artwork is located near the Kyiv railway station — a place often called the iron gates of the capital. Once, the ceremonial entrance to Kyiv was the Golden Gate, through which princes, envoys, and warriors entered the city. Today, the station has become the new gateway for those returning home after long separations, evacuations, or war.

The sculpture depicts two trains arriving at the first platform — one carrying soldiers from Kramatorsk, and the other — Ukrainians returning from abroad. It is a symbol of reunion, unity, and hope.

Within the bronze figures are real human stories:
— a soldier with his wife, who came to learn the gender of their unborn child;
— a boy holding again the toy he once lost;
— a family from Mariupol that has found its way home.

But this sculpture is not only about them. It is about all Ukrainians for whom home remains the most sacred place.

The project’s author, Yuliia Bevzenko, says:

“The iron gates are the new Golden Gates — the ceremonial entrance for Kyivans returning home.”

The mini-sculpture was created with the support of Ukrzaliznytsia and Visa. It reminds us that no matter how long the road may be, the railway will always bring you home.
