On Khreshchatyk Street there is a Kyiv Metro station named “Khreshchatyk.” It was opened as one of the first in 1960 and is named after the main street of Kyiv. The “Khreshchatyk” metro station is connected by passageways to the “Maidan Nezalezhnosti” station and has three exits.
“Khreshchatyk” is located on the Sviatoshynsko–Brovarska Line between the “Teatralna” and “Arsenalna” stations. Opened on 6 November 1960 as part of the first stage of metro construction, it received the status of a local architectural landmark. The station’s vestibules are situated on Khreshchatyk Street, Instytutska Street, and Architect Horodetsky Street, next to major city landmarks — the Central Department Store (TSUM), Kyiv City Council, theatres, the “Ukraine” Hotel, and the Presidential Administration of Ukraine. The station’s interior is distinguished by marble pylons with vivid majolica inlays, decorative cornices featuring sunflowers and corn motifs, and ceramic wall tiles designed by artist Lyudmyla Meshkova.
