The street that encloses the rectangular outline of Taras Shevchenko Park on the side parallel to Shevchenko Boulevard now bears the name of Hetman Pavlo Petrovych Skoropadskyi.
It is a relatively small but historically significant street that completes the ensemble of the university quarter. Over the course of a century and a half, it changed its names several times, but its current designation restores the memory of one of the key figures in Ukrainian history of the early 20th century.
Hetman Pavlo Skoropadskyi was a descendant of an ancient hetman lineage, a Ukrainian statesman, and the Hetman of the Ukrainian State in 1918. During his rule, the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences was established, universities, libraries, and archives were opened, and Kyiv became a center of political and cultural renewal.
The naming of this street is a tribute to a man who, a century ago, played an important role in building an independent Ukrainian state.
Today, Hetman Pavlo Skoropadskyi Street blends harmoniously into the architectural ensemble surrounding Shevchenko Park — a place where history and modernity continue their dialogue.
