The Kyiv Funicular is one of the city’s most recognizable symbols, connecting the Upper Town with Podil as it ascends the slope of Volodymyrska Hill with a panoramic view of the Dnipro River. Opened in 1905, it became the second funicular in Ukraine (the first having opened in Odesa) and served as an important transport solution that simplified travel between two historic parts of the capital located at different elevations. Today, the Kyiv Funicular carries up to 2.8 million passengers annually and remains an essential part of the city’s infrastructure as well as a popular tourist attraction.
